As the leading supplier of transportation fuels in Hawaii, Tesoro plays a key role in meeting the state’s demand for jet and marine fuels, which are critical to the local economy. Our refinery can process up to 94, 000 barrels per day of crude oil to make gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, ship fuel, asphalt and fuel oil for electrical generation. Tesoro Hawaii distributes refined products statewide.On Oahu, pipelines from the Kapolei refinery feed terminals at Honolulu International Airport, Honolulu Harbor and military installations. Pipelines also deliver products to Kalaeloa Barbers Point Harbor, where they are transferred to ships and barges that supply the Neighbor Islands. Gasoline and diesel are sold through a network of Tesoro-branded retail stations on Oahu, Maui and the Big Island, and through distributors.

Located about 70 miles north of Seattle on the picturesque Puget Sound, Tesoro’s Anacortes refinery has a total crude-oil capacity of 120, 000 barrels per day (bpd) The refinery primarily supplies gasoline, jet fuel and diesel to markets in Washington and Oregon, and manufactures heavy fuel oils, liquefied petroleum gas and asphalt. It receives crude feedstock via pipeline from Canada and by tanker from Alaska and foreign sources. Headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, Tesoro operates seven refineries, wholesale and commercial marketing activities and a network of retail fuel stations. Tesoro’s seven refineries are located in Martinez, California; Wilmington, California; Anacortes, Washington; Kapolei, Hawaii; Kenai, Alaska; Mandan, North Dakota; and Salt Lake City, Utah. Combined, these facilities have a rated crude oil capacity of nearly 665, 000 barrels per day.

Northern Lakes Cooperative was formed in 1932 by a group of sixty farmers that was fed up with paying high fuel prices to large petroleum monopolies. Through the 1930's the cooperative added fuel outlets in surrounding communities, as well as groceries, farm supplies, and a grain elevator. By the late 1950s, the Northern Lakes Cooperative complex consisted of bulk fuels, grocery, feed mill, hardware, clothing, a gas station and garage, a lunch counter and a credit union. There were 1, 700 stockholders and 35 employees.

The roots of Wilson Oil, Inc., dba Wilcox & Flegel Fuel Oil Company, date back to 1925, when the City of Longview was formed. "Smiling" Jack Manning offered the first "Sudden Service" in the heating oil business with a 55-gallon barrel strapped to the back of his truck. In 1952, Manning Fuel sold to Steve S. Wilcox, Jr., my dad, who was financed by my grandfather, Steve S. Wilcox. The early days were very lean, and seven Chevron heating fuel jobbers were competing with each other. At one time the company had only a driver, an office person, and Dad. Through hard work and summer road-oiling, the company survived and grew. In 1954, Art Flegel joined the company, which led to Wilcox & Flegel Fuel Oil Company and its slogan, "We Make Warm Friends."
