Every new Willamette Dental patient receives a thorough caries risk assessment to determine susceptibility to dental caries. Decayed tooth surfaces are diagnosed and coded based upon how deep the decay goes into the tooth. The dentists then make appropriate treatment plans from the information gathered. Advanced areas of dental caries will be restored utilizing traditional filling materials and methods. Early areas of caries will be reversed and remineralized utilizing antibacterial medications and highly concentrated fluoride solutions. This approach may require more frequent recall appointments to treat the affected areas.

In those early days, orthopedic surgery concentrated on bracing and casting, more than surgery, to straighten and strengthen limbs injured by accident or disease. Patients were often children, many of them crippled by polio.
