With the availability of cattle, Gully Ranch supplies over 30, 000 head of cattle to cutting horse events during the year, the largest being a corporation called The Abilene Spectacular Cutting Event. This event began in 1993 when Carolyn saw a need to bring an event of this type to the city of Abilene. It has grown to be one of the largest in the Cutting Industry today. This event is always held the first two weeks of the year, beginning on January 1st. This cutting event is totally run by the family members of the Gully Ranch. Carolyn, Coleta, and Ginger run the promotion and operation of the event, while Pat keeps the activities with the cattle under control. This event along with a 5 day circuit started by the Gully's in 1983 lasts 17 days and brings millions of dollars to the West Texas town of Abilene. Gully Ranch is located in a mountain area, covered with live oaks and cedar trees. Wildlife is seen every day. Deer, turkey, porcupines, birds and snakes are very common.

The Ralphs and Rickert families have developed a vertically integrated beef operation, including a cow/calf herd, an environmentally friendly feed yard, abattoir and retail meat outlets. The care and attention to detail enables the ranch to produce a superior meat product available for our customers. Our philosophy is that we would never sell anything that we wouldn’t feed to our own family. The majority of the feed fed to the cattle is raised on the Prather Ranch.The ranch raises all of its own hay, which is chopped and mixed with barley and organic rice for their feed ration. A highly nutritious, specially made mineral supplement is available for the cattle. The beef is carefully hand-cut by our artisan meat processors in our own USDA inspected facility. Prather Ranch ensures the traceability of each animal by including on each package the animal’s identification number. Prather Ranch is committed to food safety issues by testing for e.coli three times more frequently than required by the USDA and has never had a positive test for e.coli to date.

The Prather Ranch has a rich and extensive history, one whose roots began near Macdoel, California. The headquarters portion of the ranch was home to a lumber mill, a dairy/creamery, an extensive ranching operation, and the only post office for miles. The settlement had about 200 inhabitants during the 19th century and there are still historic remnants of the ranching activities. In 1922, the Uihlein family, founders of the Schlitz Brewing Company, acquired the property and continued to expand the agricultural operations still active today: cattle ranching, vegetable, citrus, timber, and turf farming as well as shell mining. In 1994, development began in Lakewood Ranch and since 2005 every village built here has used products and techniques that result in healthier, more energy efficient and environmentally responsible homes.
