In 1992, we made a decision to sell our wholesale drug business and focus entirely on the medical/surgical marketplace. This wise decision has paid huge dividends. Our goal is to deliver long-term value to our shareholders and we have paid dividends consistently since 1930. Delivering the difference is our mantra, and we strive every day to live up to that.

The respiratory system serves two main functions in the body. First, it allows oxygen to be transported from the air into the lungs with each inhale. Conversely, it removes carbon dioxide from the blood stream with each exhale. Secondly, with each breath, oxygen is absorbed by the lungs and then transported to the rest of the body by the blood. Oxygen is needed in each cell to keep the cell alive. Without oxygen, all our cells die and in turn, we die. The respiratory system is designed to ensure that all our cells have access to life sustaining oxygen.

Our highly trained staff joins residents in their moment, rather than trying to bring them into our reality. Through this approach, we recognize individuality, encourage choices and help residents maintain their dignity. We also work diligently to get to know each resident and his or her family, so that we can offer the right support for every stage of the disease process. At many of our communities, residents are involved in all kinds of charitable activities, from making dolls to send to children in Iraq to organizing fund-raisers to support needy families in the area. Many receive awards for their charitable efforts, as well as for individual achievements. For example, one of our residents was recently honored for his service to our country during World War II. In addition, many groups from the surrounding neighborhoods generously give their time to entertain and help residents.

Madison Parish Hospital was erected in 1956 and opened to the public in April 1957. The first administration of the Hospital was that of an Order of Catholic Sisters from France. Later in the year 1958, the administration changed to an order of sisters of Saint Francis of Sylvania Ohio. These sisters kept the Hospital open until August 1, 1970 at which time they were recalled and the Hospital closed. As the result of public concern, the Madison Parish Police Jury contracted a feasibility study regarding the possible reopening of the Hospital. In March 1972 the Hospital reopened with a Board of Advisors from throughout the community. In January of 1998 the Madison Parish Service District Board assumed the operation of the hospital.
