The Springfield Family YMCA has existed in several locations but moved to its current location in the late 1980s. The 300 South Limestone Street address has seen many local additions as well as an expansion in the late 1990s. In 2005, the Springfield Family YMCA had over 14, 005 facility and program members. Facility members (10, 769 members) have access to reduced program fees and all YMCA facilities excluding the toddler & pre-school program. Program members participate in YMCA programs only (3, 326 members). There are just as many female members as male members at the local YMCA and nationwide. Through the YMCA’s annual support campaign and the local United Way, the YMCA offered scholarships to over 475 individuals and families each year for membership and programming.

In the fall of 1995, Drury University opened the Rolla campus with 12 classes and approximately 400 credit hours. Within four years, the campus had grown to over 50 classes per semester and approximately 2500 credit hours per semester. Due to space restrictions, the campus relocated in the fall of 1999 to its current location. A variety of general education, major requirement, and elective courses are offered each semester.

The Drury University Ava campus serves Ava and the surrounding communities with classes held at the Ava Middle School at 709 N.E. Third Street. The campus opened in 1997 with 7 students. Today, there are over 400 students enrolled, as well as academic advising, financial aid assistance, and career counseling. The CGCS Ava campus serves students living throughout Douglas, Ozark and Wright counties. The classes are held in the evening at the Ava High School. Drury began offering classes at Ava in 1997, currently there are over 400 students working toward a variety of undergraduate degrees. Students can work on their degree while working fulltime and/or raising a family through a combination of evening and online classes. In 2009, Drury opened a new office in Ava at 1904 S. Jefferson, to better accommodate the growing number of students.

The CGCS Fort Leonard Wood and St. Robert Annex campuses offer over 200 courses a year in over 30 degree programs including the Associates of Science, Bachelors of Science, and Masters degrees, as well as the Servicemembers Opportunity College, and the Troops to Teachers Program. My belief is that fitness is a monumental part of health and we are responsible for our own health. At CrossFit Springfield, we are giving our members the opportunity to hold their health in their hands. I played Rugby for the Springfield Women’s Rugby team for five years and quickly developed a passion for training hard. I have since been involved with developing and implementing programs at the YMCA for members that were intense and effective. When the opportunity to create CrossFit Springfield presented itself, the idea of taking those programs, theories of training and bringing CrossFit to Springfield fell into place. I have been group training for over 8 years, personal training full time for three years.
