all started 30 years ago, when two sisters discovered they loved playing "shop". Our grandmother, lovingly referred to as "Mamarite", sold Avon and had a room in her house filled with great stuff! She let us pretend we had our own shop and, over the years, the dream of having our own store grew. When we were given the opportunity to purchase Cynthia Howell Stationery & Gifts, we jumped on the chance and now, after many years of dreaming, have our own little store!

In 1836, the Methodist church was organized in Jackson. The Baptists organized in 1838, the Presbyterians in 1837, the Episcopalians in 1844, and the Catholics in 1846. The Methodist church was built in 1839, the Baptist and the Presbyterian churches in 1843, and St. Andrews Episcopal church was built in 1846, with the aid of the Methodists. About the time the Methodist church was first constructed, Jackson was a village situated on the Pearl River extending north to High Street and east to Jefferson Street. In 1839, the first Methodist church building, the Old Capitol, and the penitentiary were all completed and occupied - within a few blocks of each other.

Melissa M. Monroe, PhD, L.Ac, the owner and founder of Eastside Family Acupuncture, is licensed by the State of California as well as the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. In addition to her private practice, Melissa teaches Psychology of Patient Care and is a Technical Supervisor at her alma mater, Samra University of Oriental Medicine. Melissa began her academic pursuits by completing a Pre-Med curriculum at Loyola University Chicago where she graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University Honors Program with a B.S in Psychology. After graduating, Melissa worked as a Research Technologist at the University of Chicago in the Departments of Drug Abuse Research and Anesthesiology/Critical Care, as well as conducting collaborative research with the Departments of Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery.
