Recognizing the critical need for accessible, affordable housing, AbilityFirst has become a leader in building and operating residential facilities for individuals with physical and developmental disabilities. This commitment reflects our mission to help children and adults with disabilities realize their full potential throughout their lives. In 1984, the first AbilityFirst accessible apartment complex opened its doors, in Glendale, California. Today, our housing program has grown to include 10 apartment complexes, a “family-style” adult residential facility, and a residential home for seniors. We are happy to announce that our newest apartment complex, and our first in Orange County, is now open.

AbilityFirst, formerly Crippled Children Society provides programs and services to help children and adults with disabilities reach their full potential. AbilityFirst serves special needs children and adults with autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome and other developmental and physical disabilities. In 1999, the organization adopted the name AbilityFirst to better reflect our mission, our vision for the future, and our commitment to celebrating the unique abilities of every individual. Learning to swim can be an empowering and exciting experience. Swim lessons are just one of many activities offered through AbiltiyFirst’s aquatic program.

AbilityFirst’s Newport Mesa Center in Costa Mesa offers after-school enrichment programs for children with developmental disabilities, such as autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and epilepsy. The center serves the cities of Costa Mesa and Newport Beach and their surrounding communities. Established in 1999, the center includes two modular classrooms and a playground.
